Coding for Robotics and Amazing Mazes is a dynamic curriculum featuring hands-on coding activities that culminate in the creation of custom mazes for a featured robot to navigate. By fostering problem-solving and creativity, this program equips camps with an engaging, interactive experience that helps participants build confidence in coding and robotics.
For this module you will need:
When planning equipment purchases for this curriculum, base your estimates on an average group of 10–12 children. Within each group, children should be divided into teams of 2–3. Each team requires its own complete set of equipment. For example, if multiple groups are operating concurrently, ensure that every team within each group is provided with a dedicated equipment set. So for example: 10-12 children would require 4 sets of equipment.
- 1 tablet (iPad, Tablet or an internet connected device) of your choice will be needed for camper for coding lessons. Once children are in groups then 1 device per group
- Dash Robot (1 robot for each group of 2-3 participants) Each robot is about $180 per robot, so if you have 12 campers in a group, 4 robots will be needed
- **The Dash robot has the Blockly app that will need to be loaded onto each device
- For the Maze:
- Rolls of craft paper that are around 3 feet high to be used in the Dash Challenge as a base for building a maze(choose any color) Each roll is about $40 which would be enough for the summer
Below are optional but helpful supply suggestions for creating the mazes
- Craft Sticks and Painter’s Tape to build the maze
- Corrugated cardboard strips (choose any color)
- White paper for brainstorming maze ideas
